Owner-Operator Taxi
Licence Reserve Price Investigation
The Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries Act 2008 require the Tasmanian Economic Regulator to set reserve prices for Owner-Operator Taxi Licences for each taxi area in Tasmania.
Before the Economic Regulator sets these prices, the Taxi and Hire Vehicle Industries Act requires the Economic Regulator to conduct an investigation to gather information to assist the Economic Regulator in setting these prices.
The current reserve price determination for Owner-Operator Taxi Licences (published on 28 November 2025) will cease on 31 December 2029. The Economic Regulator will be required to conduct an investigation and make a new determination by 1 December 2029.
Taxi Fare Methodology Inquiry
The Government, upon the request of the Transport Commission, may require the Regulator to undertake an inquiry into the appropriate methodologies for setting taxi fares. The report on such inquiries is to be presented to the Transport Commission, with a copy provided to the Government.
