The Regulator completed its taxi fare methodology inquiry and provided its Final Report and the ​Consultant's Final Report​ to​ the Minister for Finance, the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, and the Transport Commission on 28 February 2022.

Consultation Paper

On 19 November 2021, the Regulator released a Consultation Paper and the consultant's Draft Report for the Taxi Fare Methodology Inquiry for public consultation.

Consultation ended on 17 December 2021.

​​​Inquiry Request and Terms of Reference

On 2 July 2021, the Minister for Finance issued a Direction​ to the Regulator to conduct an inquiry into, and recommend appropriate methodologies for, setting taxi fares in Tasmania.

In accordance with section 44(1) and section 44(2)(b) of the Economic Regulator Act 2009, the direction originated from the Transport Commission and was approved by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

The Terms of Reference for the inquiry were also approved by the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport on 2 July 2021.

The Regulator engaged a consultant to assist with the inquiry.
