Weston Energy Pty Ltd surrenders its Gas Retail Licence, effective 30 June 2022

In June 2022, the Regulator received notice of the surrender of the Gas Retail Licence held by Weston Energy Pty Ltd. The notice requested the surrender take effect on 30 June 2022. 

Section 36 of the Gas Industry Act 2019 provides that a gas retailer may, by written notice to the Regulator, surrender its licence. The surrender of a licence takes effect on a date at least six months after the notice is given, or after a longer period if that is a condition of the licence. However, Section 36 also allows the surrender to take effect on an earlier date if the Regulator agrees.

The Regulator agreed to Weston Energy Pty Ltd's request that the surrender take effect on 30 June 2022.

Country Energy surrenders its licence to retail gas in Tasmania, effective 1 July 2010

The Regulator received notice, dated 10 June 2010, of the surrender of the Tasmanian Gas Retail Licence held by Country Energy, who requested that the surrender take effect on 1 July 2010.

Section 36 of the Gas Act 2000 (now repealed) required that at least six months notice of the surrender be given to the Regulator. However, as Country Energy has not entered into a retail contract with any Tasmanian customers, an effective date of 1 July 2010 for the surrender of the retail licence was agreed to by the Regulator.

TRUenergy Pty Ltd surrenders its licence to retail gas in Tasmania, effective 1 July 2009

The Regulator received noti​ce, dated 1 July 2009, of the surrender of the Tasmanian Gas Retail Licence held by TRUenergy Pty Ltd and requested that the surrender take effect on 1 July 2009.

Section 36 of the Gas Act 2000 (now repealed) required that at least six months notice of the surrender be given to the Regulator. However, as TRUenergy Pty Ltd has not entered into a retail contract with any Tasmanian customers, an effective date of 1 July 2009 for the surrender of the retail licence was agreed to by the Regulator.
