Annual Energy Security Review
Page Content
The Monitor and Assessor’s Annual Energy Security Review provides an overview of energy security in Tasmania in terms of forecast hydro storage levels and energy demand.
The Annual Energy Security Review is based on the concept of a “water year”, which is defined as the 12 month period from 1 November to 31 October. Tasmanian total energy in storage typically peaks during October and November.
The annual review is provided to the Minister for Energy in November each year (ie after the end of the water year). The review:
- includes a review of the previous water year, including inflows to hydro generation storages, demand and the generation mix;
- examines forecast rainfall in Hydro Tasmania’s catchments; and
- presents Tasmania’s overall “Energy Supply Capability”, which is a comparison of our forecast available energy supply with forecast demand.
